REGION NEWSLETTER (KNANAYA CATHOLIC REGION NEWSLETTER) WHAT IS REGION NEWSLETTER? Region Newsletter is the official weekly of the Knanaya Catholic Region of the St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago published as an electronic edition via e-mails and website. The language shall be English and Malayalam. It shall convey items like the news of missions, parishes and regions, featured articles, photo features, special columns, interviews, educational articles on church, liturgy, spirituality family life, Knanaya Community, advertisements, obituaries, matrimonial advertisements, death anniversaries, and death announcements.
WHY WE NEED A NEWSLETTER? Though there are many print and electronic media available, we will have control only if we have our own media. Only a few parishes of the Knanaya Region have their own newsletter. Activities of most of our missions and parishes are not known to other missions and parishes. If we know the activities of one another, we can learn from each other and adapt whatever is good from other parishes. Many of our lay people are interested in media coverage. That is one of the rewards or incentive they expect when they do voluntary service. Our media would encourage them to do dedicated service for our community. A lot of negative propaganda is spreading around via internet against the nature of the Knanaya Community and against the parishes (missions) and their pastoral leaders. So some people are misunderstood by such media. Hence we need a media to inform the right things and educate our people on the pastoral role and activities of the Knanaya Catholic Community. Advertisements in the Region Newsletter can also be a source of income to cover the expenses of the newsletter and to cover some of the other expenses of the resource team.
NATURE OF KNANAYA NEWSLETTER This is an electronic weekly published on every Wednesday evening in pdf 8.5” x 11” letter size format. It will be delivered to group e-mails of parishes and missions. It will also be available in the website of the Knanaya Region. The newsletter shall cover the news with photos of all missions and parishes. PROs of all missions and parishes, priests in charge of parishes (missions), leaders of various organizations of the parishes (missions) can send the matter. PROs of the parishes and missions shall also collect various advertisements for the bulletin and the payment shall me made in favor of the “Knanaya Catholic Region.” Other items that shall be included in the newsletter are: features on different topics both in English and Malayalam, articles on church, Knanaya Community, Family issues, Knanaya Migration, Historical achievements, special section for children, teenagers, and youth, media digest, interviews, Bible Quiz, Knanaya Quiz, Letter to the editor and others.
MISSION STATEMENT Knanaya Region Newsletter is committed to provide a low cost and easy to deliver communication media to deliver weekly the news, articles, and advertisements from all the missions and parishes of the region to all members of the community so that the community knows what is happening in each mission or parish and learn from one another. GOALS Weekly delivery of news, features, articles and advertisements to all the possible members of the Knanaya Catholic Community in North America by an electronic newsletter. Make the newsletter as professional as possible. Make all issues of the newsletter available at the Knanaya Region Website. ACTION PLAN Formation of an efficient team to collect materials for the newsletter including news and advertisements, to prepare features, to edit the materials, to supervise layout, and to distribute the newsletter through the internet. The commission for the Region Newsletter shall have telephone conference once a week to review and to plan ahead of the activities of the commission. The commission shall contact PROs or other responsible people of each mission periodically to assure that we get the materials from and that enough people are getting them. COST PLAN The newsletter shall be a self-financing as well as a fund-raising program of the Knanaya Catholic Region. Revenue shall be generated by the classified and non-classified advertisements. The money received shall be deposited in the account of the Knanaya Catholic Region. Expenses will be met from the same account. A special category will be created for the accounts of the bulletin in the general account of Knanaya Region. EXPECTED OUTCOME More sharing of news from all Knanaya missions, parishes, and region. Communication from Knanaya Region including circulars of bishops and Vicar General to all Knanaya Region members. Educational articles on Catholic Church, Syro-Malabar Rite, Knanaya Community, Family matters, and issues related to coming generation. Recognizing prominent leaders of the community. Income generation for Knanaya Region by Advertisement revenue. Matrimonial Services by advertisement in the bulletin. |
