“Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11)
Dear and loving friends in Child Jesus,
Christmas Greetings from Knanaya Catholic Mission, Los Angeles. On this season of Christmas I would like to share with you few words
“ Once again we are going to celebrate the great feast of the nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ. The incarnation is the greatest message from the Father in heaven to the mankind. We are not going to get any other gift other than His only son.
The Kingdom of God, which was brought by the Son, embraces every aspect of life: ethical, spiritual, temporal. When the Joy of Christmas invades our lives, it spills over into everything we do and onto every one we touch. Christmas offers a wonderful message. Emmanuel. God with us. He also resided in Heaven co- equal and co-eternal with the Father and the Spirit, willingly descended in to our world. He breathed our air, felt our pain knew our sorrows and died for our sins. He came to show us the way to life and eternity.
As you know, Christmas is a feast of heavenly Grace. Where the Grace of God is missed, bitterness is born. But where the Grace of God is embraced, forgiveness flourishes. The longer we walk in the garden the more likely we are to smell like flowers. The more we immerse ourselves into the Grace of Christmas, more likely we are to give Grace to our fellow being
As families and friends gather to celebrate Christmas, we remember all the blessings that fill our lives, beginning with the great blessing that came on a holy night in the first Christmas Eve. For us, the birth of Jesus is a central religious event; a living example of God's profound love for humanity; and the pathway to hope and to new life.
Now, as we share in the spirit of giving and enjoy familiar Christmas traditions brought here from our home land, we give thanks for the wonder of God's love and rededicate ourselves to helping those in need.
God’s love overcomes hatred and evil, and enables us to love one another. His kindness to us inspires us to be kind to one another. When we are grateful for His forgiveness, we are moved to forgive others. This spirit of love and kindness and forgiveness lasts not only for the Christmas season, but all life long for those who have accepted God’s gift.
This year as you give gifts to others, remember God’s greatest gift of all—Jesus. His love allows us to “share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and the worship of the wise men.”
On behalf of our mission and its council I would like to acknowledge in a special way the wholehearted support and cooperation given to this mission by our Knanaya Catholic Association, Knanaya Catholic Youth League and our Kids club. Since I have taken charge of the mission I have observed the great interest, enthusiasm and encouraging spirit from quite many of you for the future ecclesial development of our mission. I am grateful to recognize it here, and I hope this enthusiasm will enable us to have our own ecclesial establishment in near future. God is good and he will certainly make everything possible for all his ecclesial establishments! Let me also make use of this time to welcome all our new comers from our homeland. We are blessed that you are here to worship with us and be part of our community.
May I conclude with a prayer written by Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894);
Loving Father, help us remember the birth of Jesus that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds, and the worship of the wise men. Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.
May the Christmas morning make us happy to be Thy children, and the Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
CHRISTMAS MASS ( Thirupiravi ) is scheduled on December 24, 2006 at 6 pm at St. Mary Magdelen Church, 1241 S Corning St, L.A, CA 90035
